A walled farmhouse compound in Belgium, La Haye Sainte (Sacred Hedge) farm played a crucial part in the Battle of Waterloo. The farm was held by approximately by 400 German and British troops during the battle. The defence of the farm denied Napoleon this valuable strategic position and allowed Blücher and the Prussian army time to arrive and lend vital assistance to Wellington.
