Animals were used in arenas in a form of capital punishment known as damnatio ad bestias ('condemnation to beasts') and in combat with bestiarii (gladiators who specialised in fighting beasts). Cages such as this would have been used to transport and confine the beasts prior to these events. Our Ludus Set (T049) is required for this expansion.
