The DRG E44 (Kriegselektrolokomotive or KEL 1) was a 1940s German Electric engine used in the core network where there was the working infrastructure able to supply the current; power stations, overhead transmission lines, electricity substations and catenary in the same manner as the city trolleybuses and trams.
