Opened in 1894 to house the Imperial Diet (parliamentary assembly) of the German Empire, later succeeded by the Reichstag of the Weimar Republic, the Reichstag building strikes an iconic historical silhouette.
This facade is ideal for overlooking your table and providing a themed backdrop to your games such as Bolt Action, Rapid-fire, Chain of Command or Battlegroup.
Built over 10 years in a mix of architectural styles, architect Paul Wallot directly modelled his design on Philadelphia's Memorial Hall. The building's four corner towers represented the four German kingdoms at unification, Prussia, Bavaria, Saxony and Württemberg. The building's facade was adorned with crowns and eagles symbolising imperial strength and the heraldic coat of arms of each kingdom flanked the main entrance, celebrating the process of unification.
The original building was acclaimed for the construction of an original cupola of steel and glass, considered an engineering feat at the time.
The Reichstag building was ruined in an arson attack in 1933 and would remain unused and in ruins until made safe in the 1960s. Not until it was rebuilt during the 90s did it once again become the meeting place of the German parliament.
