Now give the village a story

Test of Honour

Lead a samurai and their followers through duels, ambushes and village raids.

Grey For Now Games’ samurai skirmish game puts a hero, a few trusted companions and their followers at the centre of the action. A typical battle uses around 10–20 models on each side.

Fight for the scenario’s objective, develop your hero’s skills and decide how far you’ll go to win. The buildings, bridges and courtyards give those small battles somewhere worth fighting over.

Sohei Temple Guard

Six metal miniatures led by mounted Superior Saburo, with 18 gaming cards and MDF bases. Build a force around these warrior monks.

New to the game? Start with the Gaming Set for the rules, core cards, dice and counters. It includes one Unarmoured Samurai, so you also need model warriors for both sides. The Samurai Warband and Sohei Temple Guard are two options to build around; each is sold separately. Add more warriors to suit your scenarios. Miniatures require assembly and painting. The scenery sets contain terrain only.

Give the timber a little history.

The weathered wood and faded panels are part of what makes a village feel lived in.

Gary Faulkner’s Mountain Village painting guide shows how water-based brush pens, a damp brush and thin paint layers can build up those effects. There are original process photographs to follow along with.

A few useful answers

Are the terrain kits already painted?

No. These are Sarissa RAW kits in laser-cut MDF and greyboard, supplied unassembled and unpainted with instructions. The photographs show painted examples. Glue, paints and scenic dressing are not included.

Which scenery set should I choose?

The Mountain Village set gives you rural buildings, fences and footbridges. The Japanese Village set mixes homes, a temple and a watchtower with smaller scenery. The Test of Honour Scenery Set is the smaller option, with a bridge, watermill, rice stores and a torii gate. Choose the buildings and layout that suit your games.

Does the Mountain Village include the thatched roofs?

The kits include their roof structures, but the textured thatching material used on the painted examples is not included. Terrain tiles, scenic bases, trees, ground cover and figures are also separate. Check each kit’s contents before ordering.

Are the terrain tiles included with the village?

No. The Terrain Tile System shown in the photographs is sold separately from the scenery sets. Trees, ground cover, figures and thatching material are also separate.

Is the Test of Honour Gaming Set a complete two-player starter?

It contains the rulebook, core gaming cards, custom dice, counters and one Unarmoured Samurai figure. You also need model warriors for both sides and terrain. Warband sets and scenery sets are separate products.

Can I use the terrain with other games?

Yes. Choose these 28mm Japanese buildings for other suitable skirmish games, roleplaying settings or display projects. Check the dimensions and your game’s terrain rules when planning your table.
