Ancient Rome was renown as a city of fountains. A city of a million people needed access to free, clean drinking water and fountains were the best way to provide it to them. Fed by a vast network of aqueducts, these fountains varied from the simple to the magnificent they had their own Curator Aquarum, or guardian of the water of Rome.
