The Church & Schoolhouse
With its simple wooden walls and modest bell tower, the Church of Redrock Falls serves as both a house of worship and the town’s only school. On Sundays the pews fill with hymns and quiet prayers, while during the week they’re pushed aside so rows of children can sit with slates and chalk, trying to learn their letters above the noise of the street outside.
The church is run by Reverend Thomas Hale and his wife, Margaret Hale, who teaches the children. Thomas preaches forgiveness and order in a town that rarely shows either, while Margaret brings patience and kindness to even the wildest pupils. Between them, they hold together what little decency Redrock Falls can claim.
Some say the Hales are the town’s conscience — though even they know that in a place like this, faith and learning are always fighting a losing battle.
