Desert Fort — Free Quick & Simple Workshop Guide (PDF)

Gary Faulkner · March Attack | QSG0004-D | Illustrated PDF guide

How do you give a bare MDF desert fort the look of weathered sandstone without covering it in extra modelling materials? In The 6-Can Shuffle, Gary shows how he painted Sarissa's Desert Fort with six cans of spray paint, printed decal paper, a little dry-brushing and an ink wash.

Follow the original photographs from part-assembling the fort and laying down the red-oxide base coat, through stone-texture and patchy sand-coloured sprays, painting the interior and blue doors, then making and applying torn stone-effect decals. Gary finishes with washes, highlights and a clear matt coat to tie the different finishes together.

Includes the original printable A4 stone-effect paper sheet, preserved at its original size, with its original creator attribution. The decal technique uses clear inkjet decal paper and a suitable printer, so check that you have the necessary materials before starting.

Free digital edition. Add the guide to your basket and complete checkout to receive the PDF through Sarissa's existing digital guide delivery system. Updated editions can be supplied through the normal guide delivery process. No printed guide is supplied.

The guide features the Desert Fort (28mm), G115. You can use the same painting and weathering approach on other suitable MDF buildings and stone scenery.

Gary Faulkner, known online as March Attack, heads up design at Sarissa Precision. He has designed the vast majority of the kits and terrain you'll find on our website and painted almost all the finished examples you see there.

These Quick & Simple Guides share the techniques and materials Gary uses himself, showing how you can achieve great results without making things unnecessarily complicated.
