Toulmore Mortar Team

The 5cm Mark 2 Infantry Mortar is a weapon with an unusual heritage—it was originally created as a device for throwing lifesaving lines to ships that had grounded near the shore. The design languished in a museum for years until a Tokish naval artillery officer rediscovered the mechanism and copied it as a flare projector.

Not long after, Alykinder himself deployed the Mark 1 mortar during his early Lake Morandi campaign. These early weapons were little more than naval flare projectors dismounted from ships and mounted onto simple metal plates for use ashore. Crude though they were, the concept proved effective enough that development continued.

The improved Mark 2, with its refined mounting and recoil systems, soon became the standard light mortar of the Crusader infantry. Operated by a two-Quar crew, the weapon can quickly bring fragmentation, smoke, or illumination rounds to bear in support of advancing troops. Lightweight and easily transported, the mortar fits neatly with the philosophy of the Crusader Light Infantry, who prize mobility and adaptability on the battlefield.

Crusader doctrine has evolved over the years, and the venerable Mark 2 Infantry Mortar is now most commonly found among the ranks of the Toulmore line catrawds. Among Crusader infantry there is a long-standing joke that even Crusader GHQ in Tok eventually found arguing with the Toulmorese syrnols about surrendering their brigades’ mortars simply too exhausting to be worth the effort.

It is, of course, a joke rarely told within earshot of the Toulmorese.

This set contains two Toulmore mortar crew operating a 5cm Mark 2 Infantry Mortar, ready to provide close fire support to your Toulmore forces on the battlefield.
