Finding the Right Bases and Movement Trays

Start with the base size your game needs, then choose the material and tray layout. Our bases and movement trays cover a range of options; these pointers will help you find the right one.

Finding a size

If the collection menus don’t take you straight to it, try the store search. Search for the size in both orientations: if 30 × 60 doesn’t find what you need, try 60 × 30 as well.

Columns first, then ranks

For a rectangular movement tray, read the layout as columns × ranks. A 5 × 4 tray is five models wide and four ranks deep.

Shaped trays use their own arrangement. The Knightly 6 Arrowhead Tray below is one example, designed for 30×60mm bases.

Finding bases for your game

The game-specific collections help narrow the choice. For Games Workshop-style square bases, the Games Workshop square-base search is another useful starting point. Choose the size required by the rules you’re using.

Materials and thicknesses

MDF is a common choice: it is durable, easy to paint and available in 2mm and 3mm options across the range. Acrylic and card options are available on suitable products too.

Clear acrylic can suit a dungeon or spacecraft floor when you want the surface below to remain visible. Check the dropdown options on the individual product for its material, thickness and size choices.
